About the position
DSWA is seeking to fill a full-time Environmental Scientist position for landfill gas operations at the Jones Crossroads Landfill located in Georgetown, DE. This position is crucial for ensuring that the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) meets all necessary environmental monitoring and testing requirements mandated by the permits for operating municipal solid waste landfills in the state of Delaware. The role involves a comprehensive approach to environmental data management, analysis, and reporting, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards. The Environmental Scientist will manage the collection of environmental data, analyze this data, and compile detailed reports that include data assessments. Field investigations will be a significant part of the job, focusing on soil, groundwater, surface water, leachate, and gas venting, as well as assessing air quality surrounding the landfill. The position requires the preparation of monthly technical reports and permit-required written submissions, ensuring that all documentation is thorough and compliant with regulatory standards. In addition to data management and reporting, the Environmental Scientist will be responsible for the selection, procurement, installation, and maintenance of all environmental monitoring equipment. The role may also involve responding to emergency calls, highlighting the need for readiness and quick action in critical situations. Additional duties include purchasing safety equipment for fieldwork, assisting with oversight of construction projects, and contributing to semi-annual and annual reports. This position is safety-sensitive and requires drug testing as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
• Manage the collection of environmental data.

Requirements
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or a related field of study.

• No experience required.

• Must possess a valid driver's license and CPR and First Aid certification (Certification training provided by DSWA).

• Knowledge of principles and practices of the environmental sciences.

• Knowledge of controlled sampling techniques.

• Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and procedures of data collection and compilation.

• Knowledge of the concepts of mathematics, chemistry, biology, and physical science.

• Ability to conduct field studies, tests, surveys, and investigations based on environmental science principles and practices.

• Ability to research and interpret regulations.

• Ability to work with electronic data processing methods.

• Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data.

• Ability to apply federal and state environmental laws, rules, and regulations.
