The Commonwealth of Kentucky is hiring an Environmental Scientist Advisor to oversee the Clean Water Act Pretreatment PFAS reduction program. About the position
The Environmental Scientist Advisor (FFTL) position at the Commonwealth of Kentucky involves overseeing the Clean Water Act Pretreatment PFAS reduction program. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations regarding PFAS in wastewater treatment plants across the Commonwealth. The advisor will work closely with municipal wastewater treatment facilities to develop and implement regulations, provide technical assistance, and conduct audits to support environmental protection efforts.
Responsibilities
• Oversees the Clean Water Act (CWA) Pretreatment PFAS reduction program.

• Reviews and analyzes publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) permit applications and reports to ensure compliance with regulations.

• Develops and writes new program-specific regulations, policies, and procedures related to PFAS wastewater discharges.
,
• Coordinates with Pretreatment communities to implement regulations and manage PFAS in wastewater treatment processes.

• Provides technical assistance to the pretreatment community regarding wastewater discharges including PFAS.

• Prepares draft reports and outreach resources for permittees on PFAS source identification and monitoring.

• Conducts on-site audits and inspections of Pretreatment Programs and prepares reports on findings.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a natural, biological, or physical science or equivalent education with 20 semester hours in a relevant science.

• Five years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, or a related area.
