HDR is seeking an Environmental Scientist 2 in Denver, CO, responsible for scientific monitoring and testing services for various environmental projects, including mines and landfills. The role involves significant fieldwork (50-70% travel) and requires a Bachelor's degree, strong technical writing skills, and experience with environmental compliance. The primary duties of this position include a range of scientific, monitoring, and testing services for a variety of environmental projects at locations such as abandoned and operating mines, landfills, industrial facilities, power stations, and communities impacted by emerging contaminants (e.g. PFAS). This position requires a versatile professional that is eager to learn and values the opportunity for professional development through a variety of project assignments. The position will require frequent travel/fieldwork (50-70%) along the Front Range and less frequent travel to other Colorado areas or out of State. In the role of Environmental Scientist/Geologist II, we'll count on you to:
• Help design and conduct field studies and be responsible for data collection, compilation and analysis for a variety of geology and/or hydrology-related projects.
• Complete geologic logging of borings and monitoring well drilling followed by conversion to electronic boring logs.
• Complete surface and groundwater sampling including coordination with laboratories, data analysis, and reporting.
• Coordinate compliance sampling for municipal, power, water/wastewater, and industrial clients
• Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic testing and analysis.
• Assist with troubleshooting issues that may arise in the field.
• Communicate issues in a timely manner to team members and supervisor.
• Perform other related duties as necessary.
• Work both independently on small projects and as part of larger project teams to assist senior personnel.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience with groundwater and surface water sampling.
• Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures).
• Strong technical writing skills.
• Experience supporting remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and design activities
• Be located within the Denver/Boulder Castle Rock Metro Area
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability and willingness to travel. May require field work in remote areas.
• Prior experience with Colorado and Federal environmental regulations.
• Prior geological/hydrogeological experience around Colorado is a plus.
• OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER, First Aid CPR, and/or MSHA Certifications.
• Prior experience with environmental compliance including development of monitoring plans, data analysis, and reporting.
• Experience sampling for contaminates such as PFAS, heavy metals, volatile organic compound
• Experience with working on CERLA Superfund Sites, abandoned/active mines, coordinating with State and Federal agencies.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
• 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel)
• Strong environmental writing and communication skills
• Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
