Environmental Scientist (BS in Environmental Science/Engineering Required) 1.5-2 Month Duration

Peterson Environmental, Ltd. is hiring an Environmental Scientist for a 1.5-2 month contract in Chicago, IL, starting March 17, 2025. The role involves environmental field sampling and monitoring at various project locations. A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Engineering is required, along with a willingness to travel extensively. Compensation is $30/hour, with overtime pay for hours exceeding 40 per week. A reliable vehicle is necessary for transportation.
Position Description:

Seeking immediately available qualified candidates to begin work week of Monday March 17, 2025.

Environmental scientist to perform environmental field sampling, inspection and monitoring work at project locations within Chicago metro area. Position duration is anticipated to be approximately 1.5-2 months with possibility of longer duration depending on performance and company project/staffing needs.

Minimum 8 hour paid duration for each day. Some days may include work durations in excess of 8 hours. Time worked in excess of 40 hours per week paid at Overtime Rate of $45/hour. Time worked in day includes time from home/office to field project location & back to home office ("portal to portal").

All business use of personal automobile is paid by company on portal-to-portal basis based on current Federal rate (70 cents per mile currently).

Typical position activities include:
• Environmental-related inspection/monitoring at IDOT projects located throughout Chicago metropolitan area and completion of IDOT environmental forms on daily basis for submission to IDOT.
• Communication on daily basis with IDOT Resident Engineer (RE) and construction contractor personnel regarding environmental aspects of construction work in progress.
• Environmental sampling (soil and water samples) and delivery of samples to project laboratory for analysis

Position Requirements: Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering

Compensation Detail:

- Get paid for all your work time – compensation is based on an hourly rate with OVERTIME (i.e., time & half (1.5) base hourly rate ($45/hour) ) for time worked in excess of 40 hours/week. We have lived in the salaried consulting world where all work time over 40 hours in a given week (and lots of it) is unpaid and we know the “grass is not greener” on that side of the fence.

- All use of personal vehicles for company/business purposes is paid/reimbursed at Federal rate of 70 cents per mile (portal to portal).
