Job Description

Eocene Environmental Group is seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist with an agriculture focus for a project starting in Spring/Summer 2025 in Baker City, OR. The role involves inspecting construction activities on agricultural lands to ensure compliance with mitigation plans. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance, documenting non-compliance, and completing daily reports. Compensation ranges from $27 to $35 per hour, with benefits including medical, 401k, and paid time off. A bachelor's degree is required.

This position is for a project that is anticipated to begin in Spring/Summer 2025*

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Reports To: Regional Supervisor

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular

Compensation: $27 - $35 per hour, based on relevant experience; per diem, relocation allowance

This position is expected to work 8-10 hours per day, 6 days per week. This position is primarily a field-based position with minimal office time anticipated. Candidates applying for this position will be required to work in Eastern Oregon.

JOB SUMMARY: The Environmental Scientist, Agriculture Focus will inspect and monitor construction activities associated with electrical transmission and distribution line development projects in Eastern Oregon. Principal duties will include inspection and monitoring of construction activities occurring on agricultural lands to ensure compliance with the project mitigation plan.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
• Observing construction activities on agricultural land
• Provide technical assistance to construction managers, other inspectors, and construction inspectors to facilitate the effective implementation of agricultural mitigation measures during construction
• Documenting instances of non-compliance with construction personnel to identify and implement appropriate corrective actions as needed
• Spot-checking various crews working at the same time by the same monitor
• Completing daily reports
• Photo documenting site conditions
• Providing training on provisions of the mitigation plan before and during construction
• Interacting professionally with other relevant parties
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
• Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership
• Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in agronomy or soil science or equivalent work experience and/or practical experience with electric transmission line construction and restoration on agricultural land
• Demonstrated practical experience in animal and range management
• Experience working in Eastern Oregon
• Ability to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditions
• Competence using global positioning system units, maps, iPads, and submeter accuracy devices
• Ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicles on rough terrain
• Ability to perform work duties independently or in a team setting
• Clear communicator, highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, and dependable
• Ability to relocate close to the project, as needed
• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience conducting compaction testing using a penetrometer and making recommendations on reducing compaction as needed
• Experience performing agricultural inspections on large-scale utility construction projects
• Field experience on construction projects
