Job Description

Eocene Environmental Group is seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist for a temporary project in Rawlins, WY, from April to October 2025. The role involves fieldwork assessing environmental impacts related to utility projects, including monitoring construction and ensuring compliance with resource protection measures. Candidates must relocate to Wyoming and have a degree in an environmental field. Compensation is $24-$28 per hour, with no benefits provided.

Reports To: Assistant Project Manager

Job Type: Full-Time, Temporary

Compensation: $24 - $28 per hour, based on relevant experience; per diem

Benefits: Not eligible for benefits

This position is for a project that will begin in April 2025 and end in October 2025.This position is primarily a field-based position with minimal office time anticipated. The average work week is Monday-Saturday 10-hour days.

Interested candidates will be required to relocate to Rawlins or Casper, WY where work will be conducted.

JOB SUMMARY: The Environmental Scientist is involved in the assessment of potential environmental impacts related to soils and groundwater for numerous small utility projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
• Inspecting and monitoring construction activities to ensure resource protection measures are being implemented to protect sensitive resources
• Verifying sensitive archaeological sites are flagged for avoidance
• Ensuring rare plant populations are properly flagged for avoidance
• Tracking and reporting construction activities
• Documentation of compliance/non-compliance with resource protection measures
• Completing daily reports
• Photo documenting site conditions
• Interacting professionally with relevant parties
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree in an environmental resource field (environmental science, biology, ecology, archaeology, or paleontology)
• Minimum of 0-2 years relevant work experience required
• Ability to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditions
• Competence using global positioning system units, maps, iPads, and submeter accuracy devices
• Ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicles on rough terrain
• Ability to perform work duties independently or in a team setting
• Clear communicator, highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, and dependable
• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Experience with one or more of the following:
• Biological resources (specifically avian surveys, raptor identification, botanical surveys, and/or bat surveys)
• Implementing and/or monitoring erosion and sediment controls including preparation and maintenance of Stormwater Prevention and Protection Plans (SWPPPs)
• Cultural resources
• Paleontological resources
• Soils
• Restoration and reclamation processes
• Field experience on construction projects
• Familiarity with electrical transmission and distribution line construction activities
• Performing environmental inspections for construction monitoring
• Prior experience working in Wyoming
