The State of New Mexico is seeking an Environmental Scientist & Specialist Supervisor to manage the Environmental Field Inspections Program within the Oil Conservation Division. Responsibilities include supervising staff, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. This position will be located in: Artesia, Aztec or Hobbs.
Why does the job exist?

This position oversees and manages the Oil Conservation Division's (OCD) Environmental Bureau's Environmental Field Inspections Program to ensure OCD goals and objectives are met. This position will: assign and directly supervise the work of the Environmental Incidents and Inspections Program; interview and recommend selection of applicants; conduct training of personnel; act upon leave requests, conduct performance evaluations, and administer disciplinary actions. This position will also have the expertise to: Coordinate and implement Environmental Inspections Program with OCD staff to ensure that they meet legal requirements; advise senior management on management issues and have in-depth familiarity with the Oil and Gas Act and Rules and the Water Quality Act and Rules.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of work experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements

Must maintain and possess a current New Mexico Driver¿s License
Working Conditions

Work in office setting. In-state travel required. Deadlines sometimes cause for longer days. Occasional work in a field or industrial setting required, including during inclement weather conditions.
