Job Description
The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Scientist - Field Program Coordinator position in the Division of Water Quality. This position may be filled as an Environmental Scientist I or Environmental Scientist II within the levels listed below. Salary depends on experience and the job level offered within the series.
Principal Duties
As an Environmental Scientist - Field Program Coordinator you will:
• Coordinate field monitoring programs and conduct field sampling surveys
• Ability to work in team settings often and oversee work of others
• Ability to work in an office and field setting; travel multiple days a month
• Manage and organize field data
• Build and strengthen partnerships, both internal and external, to improve management of the Division's monitoring program
Ideal Candidate
The best qualified candidate for this position will have the following:
• Professional experience working in an environmental/natural resource based field
• Professional experience working in an outdoor field-based position (where overnight was common)
• Ability to work unexpectedly long hours sometimes as long as 12+ hours
• Ability to coordinate multiple field programs
• Develop/improve pre-existing field programs
• Ability to work in the field as well as an office setting; willingness to travel frequently
• Oversee seasonal technicians throughout the field season
• Reviews/inspects work for quality, accuracy, and completeness (field sampling and data compilation)
• Ability to follow, demonstrate, and train co-workers on field sampling techniques/procedures in the form of standard operating procedures (SOPs), sampling analysis plans (SAPs), and monitoring plans
• Experience with operating and maintaining scientific equipment especially related to water quality monitoring
• Experience with operating 4WD vehicles, boats, off-road vehicles, and towing trailers
• Ability to troubleshoot / repair equipment in the field
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude under stressful situations
• Experience building partnerships through teamwork and collaboration
Preferences
Preferences may be given to applicants with the following:
• Bachelor's Degree in environmental/natural resources based field or at least 3 years experience in a natural resource-based field
• Special consideration will be given to those that have a degree in a water-related field
Job Series
The selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Scientist I with a salary range of $25.27 - $37.95, an Environmental Scientist II with a salary range of $29.73 - $44.66 per hour, an Environmental Scientist III with a salary range of $34.98 - $52.56 per hour.

• Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
