Summary
We are seeking a water quality specialist to join our Hydro Environmental team, which includes water quality specialists, biologists, technicians, recreation specialists, and licensing experts. This team manages the environmental requirements of the FERC licenses at hydroelectric facilities on the Clackamas, Willamette, and Deschutes rivers.
This onsite role is based at our Clackamas Hydro location in Estacada, OR. The incumbent will lead the implementation of temperature and mercury TMDLs, NPDES permits, and 401 water quality certification programs for the Clackamas and Willamette Hydro Projects. Responsibilities include overseeing public health and safety monitoring plans related to total dissolved gas, dissolved oxygen, and cyano
HABs. Travel to the Pelton Round Butte Project in Madras, OR, 1-2 times per month, will be required for water quality monitoring support.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead research and assessments for PGE projects
• Develop solutions to environmental risks and ensure compliance
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address environmental challenges
• Apply expertise in wildlife biology, fisheries, archaeology, ecology, or water quality
• Help shape PGE's environmental training programs
The Ideal Candidate
• 5+ years of experience in environmental science;
Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
• Deep knowledge of environmental regulations and practices
• Ability to adapt and solve problems in dynamic settings
• Strong leadership and project management skills
• Experience with water quality compliance and permits, including temperature and mercury TMDLs, NPDES permits, and 401 certifications
Physical Capabilities
• Travel:
Occasional overnight trips
• Fieldwork:
Long days, lifting up to 50 lbs, working on unstable surfaces, in elevated or confined spaces, and over rough terrain
