We are seeking an Environmental Impact Specialist to support environmental and cultural resource compliance for transportation projects across Louisiana. This entry-level professional position provides hands-on experience with field investigations, environmental documentation, and coordination activities that help ensure projects meet federal and state environmental requirements. This position is well-suited for individuals who enjoy field work, research, and documentation, and who are interested in understanding how environmental regulations are applied to real-world infrastructure projects. It offers the opportunity to build practical experience in environmental review and compliance while contributing to projects that directly impact Louisiana's communities and natural resources. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with all applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Job Duties and Other Information The job duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the level at which the incumbent is hired. The job duties and responsibilities listed below are for an Environmental Impact Specialist 3 position and represent the duties and responsibilities that the incumbent will be expected to fulfill at the end of the training series. Job Duties:
Investigate and analyze environmental and cultural resource impacts of transportation projects Assist with preparation of environmental documentation, including Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, and Environmental Impact Statements, in compliance with NEPA, Section 106 of the NHPA, and Section 4(f) of the U.S. DOT
Act Conduct on-site environmental and cultural resource field inspections, including data collection along project corridors Assist with preparation of cultural resources documentation, such as surveys and findings reports Support coordination with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as other stakeholders Utilize GPS, GIS, and mapping tools to document environmental and cultural resources Participate in public involvement activities, including meetings and hearings, as needed Assist with tracking environmental commitments, mitigation measures, and related documentation This role includes both office and field work, offering variety and real-world experience. This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty. Career Progression:
This position may be filled from this recruitment as an Environmental Impact Specialist 1, 2 or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Compensation:
This position is eligible for a 10% base pay adjustment upon attainment of permanent status. Progressive Premium Pay for hours actually worked.
