Job description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and resourceful Environmental Protection Officer to assist in the delivery of the work of our Environmental Protection Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for enforcing a wide range of legislation and providing advice in line with Council policy and government requirements.
You will be joining a busy, friendly and professional team in a beautiful part of the world and will work in a wide range of subject areas in a variety of commercial and domestic settings. You will also thrive in a busy environment and enjoy a challenge.
Applicants will ideally have an environmental science background with experience in enforcement interventions, excellent communication skills and an ability to work with a range of different communities, stakeholders and businesses.
Your role would be to promote and protect public health in a range of statutory and non-statutory services. You will help the Environmental Protection team in investigating complaints relating to statutory nuisance (noise, smoke, dust, artificial light, etc), assist in the monitoring and reporting of air quality, dealing with Environmental Permits, investigating waste issues, private water supply sampling and assist with undertaking Licensing consultations, etc. Suitable experience of legal proceedings would also be an advantage.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in an environment requiring direct interaction with the public and dealing with service requests. You should be thorough and diligent with a genuine interest in solving sometimes complex problems. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with good literacy and IT skills and an ability to produce and maintain accurate records.
This is an extremely diverse role requiring an unusually wide range of qualities. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is essential, and you will need to demonstrate a real passion for providing excellent customer service. The role includes some out of hours work, usually by arrangement.
