The State of Missouri is hiring an Environmental Program Supervisor for the Department of Natural Resources in Jefferson City, MO. The role involves overseeing compliance and enforcement related to underground storage tanks, providing technical assistance, and coordinating with various stakeholders. This position will be located at Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Environmental Remediation Program, 1730 East Elm Street, Jefferson City, MO.
If you are passionate about protecting human health and the environment, this position is for you. The Compliance and Technology Unit in the Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Section is seeking a motivated Environmental Program Supervisor who can play a pivotal role in compliance at UST facilities and enforcement activities. You’ll work with a diverse group of team members and stakeholders pertaining to UST inspections, environmental compliance reviews, enforcement activities, and the clean-up underground storage tank projects.
• Implement department regulations, polices, and guidance in a consistent manner and communicate both in writing and verbally with a variety of parties.
• Review UST inspections, repair, and compliance records to determine if facilities are maintaining compliance with the laws and regulations.
• Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, the general public, the EPA, public officials, the media, etc.
• Coordinate enforcement activities with the General Counsel’s Office, Attorney General’s Office, EPA and others.
• Provide guidance and supervision to the Environmental Program Specialist and the Environmental Program Analyst’s regarding UST compliance.
• Support the Tanks Section in other program level projects.
• This position could include occasional travel.
• Bachelor’s degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions maybe allowed.)
To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:
• Organization: to effectively prioritize work assignments and manage multiple tasks with varying timelines.
• Ability to understand and interpret Tanks Law and Regulations and regulatory language, analyze issues and provide solutions.
• Ability to apply broad application of tank compliance issues, financial responsibility issues, and enforcement knowledge.
• Oral and written communication: makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others; and comfortable in dealing with people.
• Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
