Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Planning Lead to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing complex environmental planning projects with a focus on initiatives that support Native Hawaiian and local communities in Hawaiʻi.
Main Responsibilities:
• Foster and maintain strong relationships with Native Hawaiian stakeholders, ensuring respectful and culturally sensitive collaboration.
• Develop and implement strategies to protect and perpetuate Native Hawaiian access and gathering rights.
• Mentor and train staff in community-based planning practices, emphasizing culturally relevant approaches.
• Facilitate community engagement and conflict resolution, utilizing best practices in communication and negotiation.
Requirements:
• Master's degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in project management within environmental, cultural, or community planning.
• Previous experience working within Native Hawaiian communities or similar indigenous groups.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Cultural Understanding: Comprehensive knowledge of Native Hawaiian history, including the impact of land loss, population decline, and erosion of cultural practices.
• Community Engagement: Over ten years of demonstrated experience in engaging with Native Hawaiian communities.
• Conflict Resolution: Demonstrated ability to mediate and resolve disputes using Native Hawaiian epistemological approaches within community settings.
