The Queensland Government is hiring an Environmental Officer (PO2) in South Brisbane to manage environmental data, particularly for the WaTERS platform. Primarily, you'll support the Water Tracking and Electronic Reporting System (WaTERS), a platform enabling regulated industries to submit water-related data in compliance with their approvals. This data underpins the Department's science-based decision-making processes and supports innovative research efforts.

As The Environmental Officer, You Will
• Provide support to projects on development and implementation of the group's databases and other decision support software.
• Assist with the day-to-day operation of the group's WaTERS database including review of submission data, automated report production and data requests.
• Provide scientific advice and assistance to regional DETSI staff, other organisations and the general public in relation to impact assessment and monitoring, particularly with regard to the protection of aquatic ecosystem health of fresh and marine waters.
• Work as a member of a team to review technical reports for planning approvals and regulation using scientific/technical knowledge and legislation, policy and guidelines related to water quality and ecosystem health impacts.
• Participate in group projects, research projects and initiatives as an officer within the Water Ecosystem Science Group.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations peoples of Australia.
For This Role, You'll Need To
• have demonstrated knowledge of water chemistry, ecotoxicology and aquatic ecosystem health, together with the methods, standards and guidelines related to assessment and monitoring in these fields and demonstrated ability to use computer software for data management.
• take responsibility for completing priority tasks to ensure quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
