Job Description
WTS is hiring an Environmental Manager for its Durham, NC site, supporting Fujifilm's operations. This hands-on role involves managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing environmental programs. The ideal candidate has over 3 years of experience in environmental compliance within manufacturing or biotech settings, and must possess OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification. The position is full-time and requires independent onsite work.
WTS, a leading By-Product and Waste Management firm, is seeking a dynamic, experienced Environmental Manager to support Fujifilm's Holly Springs site as it grows into full operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role — ideal for someone who can manage regulatory compliance while helping build environmental programs from the ground up. The Environmental Manager will work independently onsite, interfacing with lab managers, engineering teams, facilities staff, and site leadership to ensure the proper management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, regulatory compliance, and site sustainability goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Characterize, profile, and manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams, including laboratory chemicals and plant waste.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (EPA, RCRA, DOT, OSHA) and Fujifilm corporate policies.
• Develop and maintain site-level procedures, inspection programs, compliance tracking, and reporting tools.
• Support department leads in building awareness and engagement with environmental programs, under the guidance of site and regional leadership.
• Serve as the main point of contact for waste shipments, manifests, profiles, and regulatory documentation.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and training sessions to maintain high compliance standards.
• Assist in implementing site-level sustainability initiatives as directed by site management and regional leadership.
• Respond to environmental incidents or spills and manage site corrective actions.
• Represent WTS and Fujifilm professionally during corporate audits, regulatory inspections, and third-party reviews.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• 3+ years managing environmental compliance programs in a manufacturing, biotech, pharmaceutical, or laboratory setting.
• Strong knowledge of hazardous waste management (RCRA), transportation (DOT), and environmental compliance requirements.
• Proven ability to operate independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively across multiple departments.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic, semi-startup environment where policies, programs, and infrastructure are evolving.
• OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (required).
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification, ISO auditing experience, or equivalent credentials are a strong plus.
Additional Information:
This role focuses on site-level environmental program execution and regulatory compliance.
Strategic planning, client relationship management, and regional coordination are supported by WTS regional leadership.
