Job Description

Waste Connections is hiring an Environmental Manager in Bellevue, NE, responsible for managing environmental programs and ensuring landfill compliance. The role involves travel to various sites and includes responsibilities such as conducting audits, supporting engineering projects, and maintaining regulatory compliance. Ideal candidates should have a degree in a related field, strong communication skills, and at least 3 years of experience. Total compensation ranges from $105,000 to $120,000 annually.
Waste Connections is looking for an Environmental Manager to manage environmental and engineering programs and our special waste streams. This is an excellent opportunity with a growing company! This position will be based in Bellevue, NE and require travel to various sites throughout our division.

Total Compensation $105,000-120,000 annually

Responsibilities include:
• Understanding local, state, and federal regulations to proactively ensure landfill compliance and protect facility personnel.
• Supporting our customers and sales team in identifying and optimizing waste handling solutions and advancing environmental sustainability initiatives.
• Review and understand all landfill-associated permits Provide environmental compliance and sustainability leadership and direction to Region Engineers and Landfill Managers to ensure site compliance.
• Lead and perform landfill, transfer station, material recycling facility, and hauling site environmental audits.
• Coordinate and support the development of environmental monitoring reports, compliance reports, and plans. Plans may include SPCC, SWPPP, GHG, groundwater monitoring, compliance reports, Corrective Action Reports, Etc.). Ensure deadlines are met.
• Acting on behalf of the company in meetings with regulatory authorities.
• Support various engineering construction and permitting projects.
• Updating team members on new or changing policies.
• Developing site knowledge through training on various environmental-compliance related items.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising sound judgement to solve environmental compliance and regulatory challenges.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, contracts, federal, state and local regulations, engineering design and operating plans, maintenance and procedural manuals.
• Excellent technical report writing skills.
• A high level of critical thinking to define problems, collect and interpret data, and draw conclusions.
• Ability to predict and manage future compliance needs and adapt to changing regulatory environments.
• Excellent communication skills to build and maintain strong relationships with sales team, operations team, outside consultants and vendors, and customers.
• Desire to be a leader in the company’s special waste market and to learn and grow all business sectors across the company.
• An understanding of landfill design and operations.
• Experience in landfill permitting and preparing environmental permitting documents.
• A focus on safety and safe work.
• Willingness to be available when needed.

Minimum requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field science or engineering field
• 3 or more years of practical environmental experience.
• The ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
• Direct work experience in two or more of the following areas:
• environmental chemistry and waste characterization
• solid waste engineering
• environmental site assessments and remediation
• environmental auditing
