Job Description
Project Enhancement Corp is seeking a full-time Environmental Management and Sustainability Specialist in Germantown, MD. Responsibilities include document review, data analysis, regulatory interpretation, and support for environmental management systems. The role involves training development, meeting coordination, and maintaining sustainability databases while collaborating with various committees. A Bachelor’s in Environmental Science and 3-6 years of experience are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ISO 14001.
Environmental Management and Sustainability Specialist (Full-time) Location: Germantown, MD Responsibilities: * Provide thorough document review and technical editing support on various documents including directives, standards, policies, newsletters, and strategic documents. * Research, gather, and develop data. * Organize/sort information in Excel. * Analyze and research documents for continuity of content, discrepancies, and make necessary corrections in preparation for distribution. * Prepare and dispatch correspondence, schedule meetings. * Training and presentation development (structuring information, use of visual aids to support text, script writing) as well as 508 compliance. * Interpret regulatory information, and summarize/present it in other formats to other audiences, or to provide recommendations. * Support the DOE''''s Environmental Management Systems (EMS) by providing Audit support - Review and interpret ISO Standards, then review the information provided by the organization to evaluate their conformance to the provided standard. * Run meetings over Teams/WebEx/Note taking. * Keep track of email distribution lists and send out mass emails per instructions by the client. * Support the Annual reporting for Environmental Management Systems and the Annual Site Environmental Report (ASER) program. * Support the EPEAT standards committees (EPEAT UL-110 Mobile Phone standard committee, EPEAT Sustainable Use of Resources Ad Hoc committee for Packaging, EPEAT Sustainable Use of Resources Ad Hoc committee for chemicals in Packaging, EPEAT Chemicals of Concern Technical Committee, and EPEAT Resources for Imaging Equipment Consumables). * Support the GreenBuy Award Program. * Keep abreast of what standards EPA, RPN, SPLC, and LEED 4 specify. * Survey and meet with DOE sites to identify how we can help increase participation in GreenBuy/GreenSpace. * Use survey results to make program improvements and support DOE sites however indicated. * Evaluate standards for inclusion as goals on the Priority Products List. * Assess products for sustainability to recommend to sites for use. * Maintain the GreenBuy/GreenSpace Award nomination website on the DOE Sustainability Dashboard. * Prepare the FY Priority Products List for DOE Site/EPA (EnergyStar, EPP, SaferChoice, WaterSense)/FEMP/RPN reviews and address DOE site, EPA, FEMP, and RPN recommendations. * GreenBuy Award Nominations - QA nominations, work with sites to improve nominations and transition to products that meet the goals. * Write articles and success stories on sites about use of a sustainable product or program. * Maintain the DOE Site Sustainable Product Database. * Work with the Sustainability Performance Division on sustainable acquisition data collection and reporting. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor''''s in Environmental Science is required, with 3-6 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * Experience with Environmental Management Systems and Sustainability. * Familiarity with ISO 14001. * Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Power Point and Excel. * Experienced in researching issues and collecting data from various databases for the development of summary reports. * Demonstrated ability to organize and display complex data in more functional ways. * Must possess analytical capabilities. * Must be customer service oriented, experienced in interacting directly with clients. * Ability to foresee clients'''' needs and provide solutions and recommendations. * Ability to participate in meetings and capture meeting minutes. * Must possess good written, oral, and interpersonal skills. * Ability to understand and follow complex directions/instructions. * Must be a detail-oriented self-starter and have the ability to work independently. * Ability to sit for extended periods and perform work in an office environment, including extensive use of computers. * Ability to meet the requirements for a DOE security clearance and Building Access badge. The candidate''''s written consent to conduct a background check for the purposes of maintaining a security clearance will be required as a condition of employment. * A pre-employment test for the absence of any illegal substances will be required. Ongoing reviews and tests for the absence of illegal substances may also be conducted for continued access to client sites. The candidate''''s written consent to conduct such tests will be required as a condition of employment. Desired or Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of DOE sites and types of operation. * Familiarity with DOE program office procedures and tracking systems. * Self-directed, and able to define and achieve goals with little supervision.
