About the Job
As Environmental Management Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting SA Water’s environmental compliance and performance across all operations. This role is focused on delivering timely reporting, maintaining effective environmental management systems, and collaborating with stakeholders to uphold our environmental obligations and drive continuous improvement.
About the Person
You are a collaborative and detail-oriented environmental professional with a strong understanding of environmental legislation, risk management, and reporting frameworks. You bring experience in improving ISO 14001-aligned environmental management systems, contributing to regulatory compliance (including EPA reporting), and supporting operational teams through effective advice and data management. Your proactive communication skills and stakeholder focus allow you to partner across teams to uphold environmental responsibilities and contribute to SA Water’s sustainable outcomes.
About Science and Strategy
The Science and Strategy group employs scientific approaches to address present and upcoming challenges. They execute a strategy driven by customer preferences to elevate the SA Water brand and position us for future success.
Your responsibilities for this opportunity
Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.
You will:
• Coordinate and contribute to the delivery of environmental performance and compliance reporting, including EPA licence and National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) submissions.
• Support the implementation and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001.
• Improve key environmental systems and tools, including the environmental incident database and APVMA register.
• Provide advice to operational teams on environmental management requirements, including incident response and reporting protocols.
• Assist with the management and administration of EPA licences, including renewals, fee payments, and ongoing compliance tracking.
• Liaise with the Environment Protection Authority and other stakeholders on operational and strategic matters.
• Participate in EMS audits and deliver environmental management training where required.
• Support the business in identifying and managing environmental risks across operations and maintenance activities.
Your Success in This Role Will Come From
• A degree in environmental science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• A solid understanding of environmental impacts, along with knowledge of relevant legislation and policies.
• Experience contributing to environmental management and compliance within an operational or asset-based context.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001 and Environmental Management Systems.
• Strong data and system management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and reporting requirements.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with regulators, government agencies, and internal teams.
• A collaborative and proactive mindset, with a focus on accuracy, risk management, and continuous improvement.
