Job Description

Mi Familia Vota is seeking a full-time Environmental Justice Youth Organizer in Denver, CO, to empower youth leadership in environmental justice and public health. Responsibilities include engaging with the community, recruiting grassroots leaders, coordinating advocacy efforts, and developing partnerships. The role involves executing organizing strategies, conducting grassroots actions, and enhancing media visibility. The organizer will report to the State Director and collaborate with national staff to advance the organization's mission.
About the position

The Environmental Justice Youth Organizer position at Mi Familia Vota (MFV) is a full-time role focused on building grassroots leadership among youth in the state. The organizer will engage with community members around critical environmental justice and public health issues, aiming to empower a new generation of leaders. This role involves strategic leadership in developing an organizational base, which includes creating plans, recruiting members and volunteers, and mentoring emerging leaders. The organizer will be responsible for leading the planning, development, and execution of organizing strategies, as well as forming innovative partnerships with individuals, organizations, elected officials, and media outlets. In this position, the Environmental Justice Youth Organizer will coordinate grassroots advocacy efforts, which may include organizing phone banks, door-to-door canvassing, house meetings, and other community engagement activities. They will also develop and implement monthly grassroots actions, such as community meetings, press events, and letters-to-the-editor, to raise awareness and mobilize support for environmental justice initiatives. As a communication liaison, the organizer will work closely with state leadership to identify media opportunities and enhance the visibility of the movement. Additionally, the role includes providing content for Mi Familia's social media platforms and participating in training sessions for professional development. The Environmental Justice Youth Organizer will report primarily to the State Director and collaborate with national and state staff on various environmental and youth campaign efforts. This position is crucial for advancing MFV's mission to build political power within the Latinx community and ensure a healthy democracy through active engagement and advocacy.

Responsibilities
• Engage youth and community members around environmental justice and public health issues.

• Recruit and develop a powerful base of grassroots youth leaders.
,
• Create and maintain innovative partnerships with individuals, organizations, elected officials, media, etc.
,
• Assist state leadership in planning, developing, and carrying out organizing strategies.
,
• Coordinate volunteer leader grassroots advocacy, including phone banks, door knocks, house meetings, and other activities.
,
• Develop and carry out monthly grassroots actions, including community meetings, press events, letters-to-the-editor, op-eds, and community events.
,
• Identify opportunities for Mi Familia to work with the media, form partnerships, and increase the movement's visibility.
,
• Provide input and content for Mi Familia social media platforms.
,
• Participate in and conduct training as a part of professional development.
,
• Collaborate with national and other state staff on Environmental and Youth Campaign efforts.
,
• Prepare and submit reports of job activities as directed by state and national leadership.

• Professionally represent Mi Familia Vota to the community.

Requirements
• One (1) or more years of experience in community organizing.
,
• Demonstrated experience building, nurturing, and maintaining diverse and effective alliances and partnerships.
,
• Proven ability to work collaboratively and foster collaboration and trust in others in a high-pressure environment.
,
• Proven record of success in setting and achieving goals.
,
• Self-motivated with a proven ability to work independently.
,
• Cultural competency and ability to communicate effectively with people representing diverse interests, styles, and backgrounds.

• Excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills.

• Ability to be flexible and understanding of changes.

• Can meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment.

• Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance are required.
