Black Women for Wellness is offering a 9-month Environmental Justice Fellowship specializing in Beauty Justice for individuals passionate about reproductive health and environmental justice. The fellowship, based in Los Angeles, requires a commitment of 20-32 hours per week from September 2025 to June 2026. Fellows will engage in research, outreach, and advocacy while developing projects that center the voices of Black women and girls.
About Us:

Black Women for Wellness (BWW) is a leading nonprofit organization committed to the reproductive justice and human rights of Black women and girls. Founded in 1997 and located in South Los Angeles, BWW focuses on health education, empowerment, research, and advocacy. Our Sisters in Control Environmental Justice Program, established in 2006, addresses environmental toxins affecting reproductive health. We work towards reducing exposures in personal care products, households, and the built environment through community-centered practices.

Overview:

BWW is accepting applications for its 9-month Environmental Justice Fellowship with a Beauty Justice specialization to develop future leaders passionate about holistic beauty justice centered around reproductive health. There will be 2 fellows in the program, one one the Beauty Justice track and another on the Built Environment track. This fellowship offers an opportunity for individuals to kickstart their careers by learning community-centered approaches to solving social problems, providing a stepping stone for potential employment at BWW or allied organizations.

Time Commitment:

The fellowship requires a commitment of between 20-32 hours per week, and will run from September 2025 to June 2026. At the time the fellowship is awarded, you will be able to indicate how many hours you would like to work per week. Once the fellowship begins it is structured as a job, so fellows will be expected to work the regular weekly hours they indicated, and abide by all BWW job requirements.

They will also develop, execute, and report on a project that supports this ongoing work - BWW staff will offer project options that the fellows can build on, responsive to their personal interests. These projects will involve research, empowerment, advocacy, and health education, and creative/artistic projects are encouraged. Fellows must center the voices and needs of Black women and girls, abiding by environmental justice principles.
