Job Description

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist at Universal Pure in Lincoln, NE, is responsible for ensuring employee safety and environmental compliance with OSHA standards. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing EHS policies, conducting safety training, leading safety audits, and performing job hazard analyses. The role involves both office work and routine inspections on the production floor, requiring physical activity and adherence to safety regulations.
Position Purpose:

The EH&S Specialist will ensure planning, implementing, and overseeing site employee safety and environmental considerations. Focus will highlight compliance and adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards to reduce and eliminate work-related hazards and injuries.

Major tasks, responsibilities, and key accountabilities:
• Create, maintain, and implement Universal Pure EHS policies and programs
• Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics
• Lead Continuous Improvement effort in the areas of Safety, Health, Environmental compliance & Risk Management
• Assist in Development of Environmental and Risk Management standards; train and audit compliance
• Provide training and lead safety meetings
• Participate in the development of Accident Investigations and Corrective Actions
• Review and update existing policies and procedures related to safety
• Adhere to all the rules and regulations
• Work with HR regarding workers compensation claims
• Conduct job hazard analysis (JHA) and ergonomic risk assessments
• Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes and provide recommendations
• Assist with site internal and external safety audits
• Other duties as assigned by General Manager

Additional Responsibilities:
• Participate in management meetings communicating safety near miss observation submissions
• Conduct routine inspections (e.g., fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, first aid kits, PPE, forklifts, etc.)
• Responsible for recordkeeping of EHS documentation
• Chair the Lincoln Site Safety Committee
• Partner with Site GM to develop an EHS culture leading to Zero (0) harm
• Develop & implement relevant monthly safety training for all teammates

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in related field
• 3-5 years of relative experience
• Experience with OSHA Process Safety Management standard
• OSHA 30-hour general industry
• Experience with 3rd party Care Mgmt providers to insure best class care management for our teammates
• Must be able to provide valid driver's license

Working Conditions:
• Office environment
• Routinely walking the production floor in cold environment (less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit)
• Ability to sit, stand, walk and use hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard, mouse and telephone
• May require occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
• Ability to climb stairs, bend, twist, & crouch occasionally

• Hourly Employees: Universal Pure facilities may process, pack, and store products containing allergenic food ingredients as referenced by FDA, team members who may come in direct contact, must be able to work with these ingredients.
• Salaried/Remote Employees: Universal Pure facilities may process, pack and or store products containing allergenic food ingredients as referenced by FDA, occasional exposure may occur, inform your direct manager of any food allergies.
