The Clarke County Environmental Health Office is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist. Under supervision, assists the Environmental Health program in Clarke County to include inspection/permitting/consultation for the Food Service Program, On-Site Sewage Program, Body Art Program, Tourist Accommodation Program, Public Swimming Pool Program, and Rabies Control to ensure compliance of state rules and regulations. Investigate all assigned health-related complaints received and perform all environmental health office duties such as filing, letter writing, data entry, etc. Use of personal vehicle at State reimbursement rate will be required.
As an Environmental Health Specialist within the Clarke County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways. You will support the Department by utilizing your expertise to fulfill the following responsibilities:
• Conducts scheduled and surprise inspections of assigned facilities and settings, which may include restaurants,
• hotels, hospitals, schools, commercial and industrial settings, recreational areas, and other settings with applicable
• safety and health requirements.
• Enforces applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations including food handling regulations, sanitation
• regulations.
• Investigates food poisoning and similar community health outbreaks to determine probable origins, causes, and
• available mitigating or corrective actions.
• Implements environmental protection regulations and health standards for business, public, and residential areas.
• Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) AND One year of experience at the lower level PH Environmental Health Specialist I or position equivalent AND Attendance and completion of the Georgia Environmental Health Training class.

Annual salary $47,600 plus, generous benefits include 13 paid holidays, annual and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement plans.
