Job Description
Clean Water Action is seeking a full-time Environmental Health Organizer in a hybrid role based in Philadelphia, PA. The organizer will lead outreach efforts on lead and health-related issues, engage with communities, and support local and national environmental campaigns. Candidates should have experience in community organizing, particularly in lower-income and BIPOC neighborhoods, and possess strong communication skills. Reliable home internet access is required, along with the ability to commute to the office.
About the position
Clean Water Action is a national, grassroots environmental organization dedicated to protecting the environment and safeguarding public health. The organization promotes the passage of strong environmental laws and assists communities in addressing local environmental issues. Clean Water Fund, a national research and education organization, focuses on public interest issues related to water, waste, and toxics. We are currently seeking a full-time Environmental Health Organizer to work on lead and health-related environmental issues in Philadelphia and southeast Pennsylvania. The primary responsibility of the Environmental Health Organizer will be to lead outreach and organizing efforts with community partners and residents in areas affected by lead exposure. This role requires the ability to manage effective community engagement strategies to mobilize residents and implement successful community environmental health programs. The organizer will also contribute to Clean Water Action's broader state and national campaigns, advocating for clean water, environmental justice, waste reduction, and community health. Experience working in communities of color and lower-income areas is highly valued. Candidates should possess a passion for environmental justice and public health, as well as the skills necessary to engage effectively with diverse communities. The position involves collaboration with local civic organizations, participation in coalitions, and assisting in voter education efforts on environmental issues. Additionally, the organizer will support media and public relations activities, engage in lobbying efforts, and assist with local fundraising initiatives. This role is hybrid, requiring reliable home internet access and the ability to commute to the Philadelphia office and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary organizer on lead and health-related issues for the Philadelphia office, engaging in community outreach and education in impacted neighborhoods, working with local community partners and civic organizations.

• Represent Clean Water Action/Clean Water Fund in coalitions and coalition activities.
,
• Assist in eastern Pennsylvania on Clean Water Action's national and state campaigns.
,
• Assist in voter education efforts on environmental issues, and help elect pro-environment candidates through Clean Water Action.
,
• Assist with media and public relations activities in eastern Pennsylvania.
,
• Assist in lobbying and other communication with legislators and agency staff.
,
• Assist with local fundraising activities, including events and individual donor work.
,
• Provide support for Clean Water Action's field and phone canvasses.
,
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• 1-2 years in community organizing, environmental advocacy, or electoral campaigns.

• Proven experience in engaging communities, especially in lower-income and BIPOC neighborhoods.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively.

• Ability to work in a hybrid role, requiring reliable home internet access and the ability to commute to the Philadelphia office and surrounding areas.

• A deep passion for environmental justice, public health, and community empowerment.

• Comfortable with using online communication tools, managing digital campaigns, and utilizing basic software for organizing tasks.
