Location: Camden Area
Position: Environmental Health Officer
Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-Time

Position Purpose:

We are seeking an Environmental Health Officer to join our team to protect and enhance the environmental systems of the Camden area and ensure the health and safety of its community. This key role requires a dedicated professional to handle environmental monitoring, resolve complaints, and support policy implementation in alignment with council standards.

Key Responsibilities:
• Environmental and Health
• Investigate and resolve complaints related to air, water, noise, land, and public health.
• Attend pollution incidents and provide advice on pollution control.
• Implement, monitor, and comply with Council's WHS Management System.
• Conduct environmental monitoring and reporting programs.
• Adhere to principles of Risk Management within your role.
• Policy and Procedures
• Ensure compliance with relevant statutory regulations and Council policies.
• Participate in the preparation, review, and implementation of policies and guidelines.
• Stay informed about changes in legislation and industry standards.
• Branch Activities
• Assist in the preparation of reports and recommendations for Council management.
• Provide advice on development applications to ensure public health protection.
• Contribute to branch projects and policy formulation.
• Customer Service
• Maintain a customer-focused approach, delivering accurate and timely responses.
• Work collaboratively with the community and stakeholders to promote public health.

Essential Criteria:
• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Applied Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience in environmental health, including complaint investigation and regulation.
• Solid understanding of relevant Acts and Regulations such as the Local Government Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Food Act, and more.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including conflict resolution abilities.
• Experience in managing inspections and regulations of food premises, sewage systems, public swimming pools, and more.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Criteria:
• Postgraduate qualifications in environmental science or management.
• Experience with on-site sewage management facilities and approvals.
• Familiarity with risk management practices.
• Ability to represent Council in legal proceedings.
