Public Sector People are working with a local council in Melbourne's northern suburbs to recruit a Environmental Health Officer for a 2-month temporary contract assignment.

Position Overview

We are seeking an Environmental Health Officer for a 2-month temporary contract opportunity within a local government setting. This role offers a chance to contribute to the health and safety of the community by administering and enforcing various Environmental Health regulations. The position requires someone with experience in managing residential noise complaints and conducting inspections under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act.

Position Start: Mid-Late March

Contract Duration: 2 months

Location: Northern suburbs

Key Responsibilities

As an Environmental Health Officer, your duties will include:
• Food Safety:
• Examine and approve applications, registrations, and renewals for food premises.
• Provide advice and support to food business proprietors regarding Food Safety Programs.
• Conduct inspections and audits of food premises to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
• Investigate food-borne illness complaints and outbreaks.
• Prepare legal briefs for prosecution when necessary and attend court hearings as required.
• Environmental Health:
• Assess and approve applications for registration under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act and Residential Tenancy Act.
• Conduct inspections of registered establishments, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety standards.
• Investigate and manage complaints related to nuisance or health hazards, issuing notices as required.
• Provide advice on communicable disease control and assist in public health response activities.
• Monitor compliance with swimming pool and spa regulations.
• Offer guidance on pest control measures and support the development of the Municipal Public Health Plan.

Skills & Experience:
• Administrative experience within a local government context.
• High level of customer service and communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of Environmental Health practices within local government.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
• University degree in Environmental Health or a Health Services qualification.
• Previous experience in managing residential noise complaints and performing inspections under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act is highly desirable.
