Job Description
The Environmental Health & Safety Technician I at Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute in Albuquerque, NM, supports compliance with safety regulations, conducts surveys, and responds to emergencies. Requires a high school diploma and relevant experience. Candidates should have knowledge of safety regulations and strong communication skills. Overview
Under general supervision, the EH&S Technician will support the institute in the areas of environmental safety and health ensuring compliance with city, state and federal regulations. The EH&S Technician will conduct radiation surveys and conduct radiation training for employees. Performs noise surveys and laboratory safety inspections. Collects, analyzes, ships and packs samples. The ES&H Technician will collect, sort and prepare wastes for disposal. Will be responsible for maintaining equipment for emergencies and will respond to accidents such as spills, fires and falls.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year of related work experience in industrial hygiene or safety; or 2 years of related work experience working in a laboratory setting.; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must have a basic understanding of general safety, fire safety, industrial hygiene and/or environmental safety. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, NRC and DOE regulations preferred.
Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism, excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
Relocation may be offered for this position.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a variety of settings including office and laboratory environments, as well as in outdoor areas. Will frequently stand, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, etc.), reach/work overhead, frequently lift/carry/push/pull heavy objects that weigh up to 50 pounds and perform desk-based computer tasks. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. Will work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and will be required to work in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.The above is intended to describe the general requirements for the position and should not be interpreted as an exhaustive statement of physical requirements. Salary
