Store Support Center (ONSITE)
We are searching for an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Specialist for our Store Support Center, located at 600 Citadel Drive, Commerce, CA 90040.
SUMMARY
The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist reports to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety and will provide assistance and clerical support for the company’s safety and environmental government regulatory compliance programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned or required.
• Data input and management of company CERS records (California Environmental Reporting System)
• Preparation, review, and submission of company HMBP (Hazardous Materials Business Plans)
• Assist with deploying, tracking, and record retention of hazardous waste training programs
• Prepare, submit annual summary for EPA ID# verification and maintain company EPA ID #’s
• Track/maintain company Hazardous Waste Manifests and Land Disposal Restriction records
• Prepare, submit, track annual renewal of Hazardous Waste Permits
• Liaison with local, state and federal government agencies (OSHA, CUPA, PA, Fire Departments, DEH, DTSC, CAL EPA, EPA, DOT, CARB)
• Follow up and track all regulatory visits to ensure timely return to compliance
• Conduct hazmat audit review and analysis and work with stores to assist in getting back in compliance.
• Visit store and warehouse facilities to review compliance.
• Prepare stores for announced inspections/assist on any regulatory inspection or corrections
• Review of reclamation reports and utilize data to change and update proper hazmat designation and reclamation status
• Coordinate new store hazmat set ups and site inspections during store closures and all proper closure protocols
• Respond to and assist with recall projects and emergency responses
• Assist with the maintenance and data integrity of WERCS program
• Respond to requests relating to Hazardous Waste services and supplies
• Primary contact for company safety and environmental vendors
• Expense line monitoring and tracking
• General reporting: hazardous waste generation, training reports as well as any additional reporting requested
• Provide subject matter expertise for OSHA and Environmental related regulations
• Periodically conduct safety & compliance training to educate associates on job safety, health hazards, and methods of reducing and/or eliminating workplace hazards.
• Communicate with management, safety staff, and associates to keep all locations up to date and current regarding changes in safety regulations and programs
• Assist Director with facility improvement projects by researching requirements, suggesting options, obtaining proposals, and evaluating safety and compliance issues
• Compile and track all documentation for compliance with all safety policies and required safety programs (Inspection Records, OSHA TRIR, OSHA 300, WVPP, IIPP, HIPP)
• Ensure all safety and health metrics and reports are completed and communicated promptly
• Assist with tracking and analyzing Workers Compensation and General Liability incidents.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Science, or a related discipline or a combination of education and work experience desired. OSHA 10-Hour Certification is preferred, but not required. Knowledge of OSHA and hazardous waste laws and regulations, DTSC, BLS, RCRA, Non-RCRA, CHSC, CCR; Title 22, preferred.

• Strong statistical, mathematical, analytical, and evaluative skills, which demonstrate the ability to analyze, interpret, and effectively communicate, environmental and safety information, policies, and regulations
• Ability to interpret and apply regulatory standards
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interpret data and compose reports.
• Must be detail-oriented and have excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work with people at all levels with conflict resolution skills.
COMPENSATION: The hourly range for this position is $25.50 to $27.00 per hour. The actual starting pay will be determined by a number of qualifications; including, experience and relevant skills.
