Job Description

Ecopoint, inc. is seeking an Environmental Field Technician for seasonal work (April-October) in the Colorado Front Range, primarily Longmont, Firestone, or Brighton. The role involves fieldwork including vegetation assessments and GIS analysis, requiring travel to remote locations. Candidates should have a background in environmental studies, basic computer skills, and knowledge of local vegetation. The position demands self-motivation and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.

Location: Front Range Colorado preferred Longmont, Firestone, or Brighton

Job Type: Seasonal (maximum: April - October; Flexible with University schedules)

Compensation: Base of $20/hr with minimal experience, negotiable depending on experience.

Description:

The position of Environmental/Reclamation Field Technician will be located within the Colorado Front Range, exact location will be dependent on the candidate’s residence. Employee will be expected to contribute to various types of projects both in the field and in the office that range from reclamation vegetation assessments, plant identification, native seed collection/field scouting activities, and desktop GIS analysis. This position includes limited office work and other duties as assigned.

This is a highly autonomous position that requires the ability to navigate to often remote locations (predominantly Oil and Gas client assets) and use GPS hardware, and mapping software. Considering this, the candidate should have the ability to drive a pickup on rough terrain, drive defensively, and adhere to specific safety protocols. The ideal candidate has the ability to identify common vegetation (including noxious weeds and native species), has a basic understanding of Oil and Gas facilities, and has a working knowledge of GIS and ESRI applications. Field work, sometimes in harsh weather conditions, includes vegetation reclamation surveys and mapping, stormwater inspections, seed collecting/scouting activities, GPS mapping and associated data collection, etc.

Successful applicants must have a high level of self-motivation, be able to work independently, have exemplary work ethic, and have a willingness to continue learning new skills and knowledge. Employees are always expected to represent the company in a professional and safe manner while in the field. All field equipment, cell phone, vehicles, and PPE will be provided by EcoPoint. The individual will report to the Reclamation Project Manager and/or the Director of Operations. Applicants will be required to maintain good communication with co-workers, operator representatives, and other contractors.

Travel: Daily travel to the field will be required for the position (up to 2 hrs), but rarely requiring overnight stays. With work spread across the intermountain west, overnight travel may be required. However, work will primarily be done within the Colorado Front Range.

Minimum Professional Qualifications:
• Ability to work independently or as part of a crew
• Ability to work safely and complete safety trainings as required
• Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, tablets, etc.
• Received or working toward Associates or bachelor’s degree in an environmental field
• Ability to create a personal schedule for work hours (40hr./week with potential for OT)

Preferred Professional Qualifications:
• Basic knowledge of regional vegetation including noxious weeds and native vegetation including the ability to identify them in the field
• Understanding of ESRI products (ArcGIS, Survey123, Workforce, and Collector/Fieldmaps)
• Basic understanding of the Oil and Gas Industry and associated regulatory requirements
• Understanding of stormwater management control measures

Minimum Physical Qualifications
• Walking for extended amounts of time and distance
• Physically capable of performing field mapping through uneven terrain
• Working in extreme conditions such as hot or cold weather, wind, and insects
• Drive company vehicles in a safe and conscientious manner
• Pass an Initial and Random Drug/Alcohol Tests
• Possess a valid Driver’s License (with clean driving record)
• Able to work long hours when needed
