Shield Environmental Associates, Inc. is seeking to hire an experienced environmental engineer to assist with air permitting projects.

Position Title: Environmental Engineer

Location: Lexington, KY

Purpose: To provide consultation services to industrial clients for a variety of environmental programs, with a focus on preparing air permitting applications, emissions reports, wastewater and stormwater sampling/permitting.

Objectives, Tasks and Standards:
• Air emissions, assessments, permit application preparation, reporting, and ongoing emissions record keeping
• Stormwater and wastewater sample collection, troubleshooting and reporting
• Reporting using EPA and DEP online portals
• Regulatory reporting and compliance assessment for wastewater, air quality, stormwater, hazardous waste and chemical management for industrial clients
• Permit application and registration preparation for air, wastewater, stormwater and hazardous waste, including potential-to-emit calculations, chemical assessments, regulatory interpretation and regulator interface
• Feasibility studies on treatment methodologies
• Ongoing permit required data collection and calculations
• Environmental plan development including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, Spill Prevention Control, and Countermeasure Plans, Groundwater Protection Plans and Hazardous Waste Contingency Plans
• Peer review and participation for larger projects involving multiple disciplines and contractors
• Participate in the development, administration and maintenance of environmental policies and procedures while working with federal, state and local regulatory agencies to stay apprised of regulations
• Must be familiar with and able to interpret regulations including RCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, EPCRA and state regulations for KY DAQ, DWM and DOW
• Environmental compliance and management system auditing
• Phase I and Phase II site investigations for commercial and industrial properties

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Previous experience preparing air permit applications and emissions assessments
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Intimate knowledge and application of Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Proven ability to work on and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated with a sense of urgency
• Previous experience performing environmental monitoring and sampling preferred

Education and Training:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Environmental, Civil, Mining, Chemical, Geological or similar)
• 2+ years of related experience in air permitting
• Additional certification or licensure appropriate to the job preferred (e.g., E.I.T., P.E.)
• 40-Hour Hazwoper Certification preferred

Job Type: Full-time with benefits

Salary: Based on experience

Schedule:
• Typical schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
• Additional work time may be needed based on project schedules
