Job Description
Seaboard Energy is seeking an Environmental Engineer in Hugoton, KS. The role involves being the Single Point of Contact for environmental compliance, managing change reviews, and guiding daily environmental assurance. Key responsibilities include conducting recordkeeping, facilitating incident investigations, and developing continuous improvement systems. Candidates should have a BS in environmental or chemical engineering, 5 years of experience, strong communication skills, and a preference for Six Sigma certification.
SUMMARY: This position involves acting as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for environmental compliance and permitting, managing change reviews, and guiding day-to-day environmental assurance. Responsibilities include conducting recordkeeping and reporting, facilitating investigations of environmental incidents, and developing continuous improvement systems. The role requires strong communication, leadership skills, and a background in environmental engineering, with a preference for Six Sigma certification.
Responsibilities
• Communicate environmental compliance and permitting requirements and guidance to operations, projects, and maintenance teams as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC)
• Complete management of change (MOC) reviews and participate in PSSRs as necessary
• Develop continuous improvement of systems to identify potential compliance gaps
• Guide day-to-day environmental assurance of production unit activities and advise operations and maintenance personnel with environmental issues as required
• Complete reviews of projects for any environmental impacts
• Conduct recordkeeping, reporting, and assurance associated with regulatory compliance obligations, and meet all regulatory and internal corporate deadlines
• Track, trend, and report environmental performance, and identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities
• Provide proactive technical monitoring of environmental data for compliance
• Facilitate investigations of environmental incidents and/or near misses and track actions to completion
• Develop environmental turnaround plans and review MOCs for associated permit actions.
• Document environmental consequence information in the event management system for corporate reporting requirements
• Assist with internal and external environmental audits and agency inspections
• Conduct regular field walk and control room visits to monitor environmental compliance and to improve environmental awareness
• Maintain strong positive working relationships based on a high level of trust and credibility

• BS in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of Environmental experience in air compliance programs preferred
• Strong understanding of air and water regulations within Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues at many levels of the organization
• Proven track record of productivity when challenged with multiple projects and priorities
• Strong relationship and leadership skills demonstrating initiative, honesty, integrity, courage, and respect
• Must demonstrate the ability to build strong positive working relationships based on a high level of trust and credibility with agency personnel, operations, technical, and maintenance personnel, and managers, supervisors, and staff
• Must influence a diverse team, including senior leaders, with minimal formal authority
• Must prioritize and manage many projects and requests simultaneously
• Must respond quickly and efficiently to sudden and complex issues, while continuing to balance routine tasks
• Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements for this role include the ability to sit and work on computer-based programs for extended periods, regularly walk, stand, and reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The candidate must be able to climb ladders or platforms and enter confined spaces, possess specific vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the candidate must be able to wear all required safety equipment, occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions, which may include extreme heat or cold, and perform regular field walks and control room visits to monitor environmental compliance and improve environmental awareness.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This role involves both office and field work, requiring the ability to sit at a computer, walk, stand, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds. The candidate must be comfortable with climbing, confined spaces, outdoor weather conditions, and wearing necessary safety equipment while monitoring environmental compliance.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Days/M-F. The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Occasional changes in schedule may be required as special circumstances arise. Up to 10% expected travel for turnarounds, outages, emergency response, major projects, team development and maintenance, and site networking.
