Job Vacancy: Environmental Engineer – Legacy Landfill

Primary Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to plan, organize, and manage environmental compliance activities at our Legacy Landfill site. This role involves minimizing environmental risks through best practice initiatives and ensuring effective site monitoring and leachate treatment operations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage closed landfill operations and coordinate site monitoring and leachate treatment plant operations.
• Analyze environmental data and provide expert technical advice.
• Identify and report adverse environmental conditions and hazards while proposing improvements.
• Develop and implement management plans for closed landfills within the CB City LGA.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Obtain quotations for minor project works and manage project documentation, including reconciling invoices.
• Respond to inquiries, prepare reports, and write business case documentation.
• Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the EPA.
• Respond to environmental incidents and ensure communication with relevant parties.
• Assist with the operation of the Kelso weighbridge system.

Focus Capabilities:
• Proactive approach in environmental hazard identification and reporting.
• Expertise in environmental compliance and management systems (ISO 14001).
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:
• Degree in Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
• Current Class C driver’s license (Provisional or Full).
• Strong knowledge of environmental management systems and surface water and sediment control techniques.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting technical and scientific data.
• High-level communication skills, both written and oral.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Familiarity with the Protection of the Environment Act 1997 and Waste Regulations.

Desirable:
• Relevant short courses (e.g., waste management, WHS, sustainability).
• SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction Card.
• First Aid Certificate.
• Experience in landfill operations and environmental auditing.

Workplace Requirements:
• Adherence to the Council's WHS&E responsibilities.
• Compliance with the Code of Conduct and Records Management policies.
• Ability to make decisions within delegated authority.
