Job Description

Clemson University Learning Institute is hiring Environmental Educators/Naturalists for Fall 2025, with potential for Spring extension. Positions involve teaching outdoor education programs at two South Carolina locations, focusing on ecological field studies and adventure activities. Candidates should have relevant degrees or experience, and must be energetic, flexible, and physically fit. The job starts in September 2025 and offers a salary of $525 per week plus benefits.

Position Summary:

Clemson University Learning Institute is seeking Field Study Instructors, Environmental Educators, and Naturalists for its Fall 2025 season, with opportunities to extend into Spring. These positions involve teaching outdoor education programs at two South Carolina locations, combining ecological field studies with adventure activities.

Key Responsibilities:
• Teach at least two curriculum components in field study programs.
• Facilitate daily program activities, including meals, wake-ups, canteen, flagpole, and campfires.
• Lead and participate in evening recreational and instructional sessions.
• Assist with program area setup, cleanup, and children’s supervision during activities.
• Utilize adventure activities to facilitate group learning.

Locations:
• Camp Hannon:
• Situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the South Carolina/North Carolina border.
• Focus on mountain geology, ecology, aquatic ecosystems, and topographical studies.
• Activities include stream mapping, zip lines, climbing towers, and more.
• R.M. Cooper 4-H Leadership Center (Camp Bob Cooper):
• Located on a 110-acre peninsula on Lake Marion, South Carolina.
• Provides aquatic ecology, forestry studies, wildlife ecology, and high-adventure experiences (ropes courses, climbing walls).

Qualifications:

Preferred:
• Degree in Environmental Education, Natural Sciences, Parks & Recreation, or a related field, OR prior experience in environmental education or camping programs.

Required:
• Patience, energy, and flexibility.
• Ability to teach using hands-on, creative methods.
• Physical fitness to perform outdoor teaching tasks.
• Willingness to work long hours as part of a team.
