Environmental Educator Instructor

The Environmental Educator Instructor at Lake County Forest Preserve District in Libertyville, IL, is responsible for planning and co-teaching summer programs for students aged 3-16. SUMMARY

The Environmental Education Instructor is responsible for planning and co-teaching summer programs to students ages 3-16. They serve as the main support for the Science Explorers in Nature (SEN) and Conservation Explorers (ConEx) programs and as a mentor to the Nature Camp Instructor (NCI) position. They assist with administrative camp functions including compiling forms, distributing pre-and post-tests, evaluating and monitoring students to ensure successful completion of daily activities and projects ensuring proper behavior and safety during camp and on field trips. Some tasks require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching, sitting and lifting up to 50 pounds.

EXPERIENCE

One year college course work in earth sciences, natural resources, education, interpretation, or a related field. Two seasons of teaching, camp or relevant experience. Must have enthusiasm and respect for people, teaching and the environment. Education and communication skills necessary to present educational programs for large and small groups of children and adults. Ability to operate audio-visual equipment and word processing software. Upon employment, must successfully complete and obtain certification in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid. Must possess valid driver’s license.
