Job Description

The Commonwealth of PA is seeking a Seasonal Environmental Education Specialist for the Rothrock Forest District in North Huntingdon, PA. This role involves developing educational outreach initiatives and communication strategies to promote recreation and forest management, while engaging stakeholders. Candidates should have a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. The position requires a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License, willingness to work flexible hours, and adherence to Child Protective Services Law. This is a full-time, seasonal role without benefits.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Environmental Education Specialist supports the district management team in creating and executing communication and environmental education strategies, as well as developing content and programs that promote visitor services, forest management, recreational activities, and stakeholder engagement objectives within Rothrock. This role is based at the Rothrock Forest District office, with responsibilities extending across the Rothrock Forest District and Rothrock State Forest.

The specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall experience for visitors while ensuring sustainable practices are upheld in forest management. Through collaboration with various stakeholders, the Environmental Education Specialist aims to foster a deeper understanding of environmental issues and promote active participation in conservation efforts. This position is vital for achieving the district's goals and enhancing community involvement in forest-related activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
• Full-time, seasonal employment without benefits.
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This position may require travel.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
• A bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, the natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:
• Willingness to work weekends and evenings.
• Willingness to wear a prescribed uniform.

Other Requirements:
• This particular position also requires a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
• This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
• Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
