Job Description

WWT Limited is seeking an Environmental Education Project Manager for a 12-month fixed-term contract in London, focusing on connecting disadvantaged children with nature through the Generation Wild project. The role involves managing project delivery across seven UK wetland centres, evaluating success, and supporting learning teams. Flexibility for remote work is provided, but occasional site visits and travel are required. The position offers various benefits and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds.
Fixed Term Contract for 12 months initially with a potential three year extension

Are you passionate about connecting children with nature? Do you believe nature is for everyone? Do you genuinely want to make a difference?

We are looking for someone with the drive, skills and experience to lead our latest nature connection project for schools, children and families in disadvantaged areas. Generation Wild is engaging thousands of primary-age children with nature, improving their wellbeing and inspiring the next generation of nature lovers.

This ground-breaking project uses story, music, art, performance and puppetry to create a sense of magic and adventure, engaging a wide range of children irrespective of their background, ability or preferred learning styles.

The Role

Our learning teams have a real passion for breaking down the barriers preventing disadvantaged children from connecting with nature. Working within this team and with the support of external contractors, WWT experts, teachers, learners and our site-based learning teams, you will manage delivery of the project across seven of our UK wetland centres.

This provides an exciting opportunity for someone to come in, evaluate project success to date and use the learning from this to help shape a new phase of the project. They will effectively plan, monitor and evaluate project activities, supporting their implementation across a range of sites. Join us as we inspire a new generation; a generation who develop and benefit from a love of nature and all that it has to offer.

The project was initially funded for three years to August 2024. We are currently involved in positive discussions with the funder in order to extend the project by a further three years.

For this role, we can offer flexibility around working from home. It is expected the role will need to work from their site base a few times a month and as required for key meetings. Travel will also be a necessary part of this role, visiting our sites across the UK to support the learning teams and observe the project in action. A willingness to travel regularly to other WWT locations is essential, staying away from home as and when required.

When visiting our website you will notice that this position is referred to as Generation Wild Project Manager. This is how the role is known internally within WWT.

About Us

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is the UK’s leading wetland conservation charity. Our wetland centres engage around a million visitors every year. Generation Wild forms an important part of our wider learning programme which inspires over 45,000 learners per year.

We have a passion for engaging disadvantaged communities with nature and have a strong track record of working with young people from these communities. We would welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds. If this is a role that excites you, we want to hear from you.

Appointment to this position is subject to the successful candidate receiving an enhanced disclosure and barred list check (child).

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will enjoy a wide range of benefits including:
• 33 days annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays, increasing to 38 days after 5 years’ service
• Contributory pension scheme matching up to 7%
• Life assurance providing 3 times annual salary
• Access to a wide range of resources to support your health and wellbeing including our 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
• Enhanced family friendly policies
• Cycle to work scheme
• Free entry to all our centres

Closing Date: Monday 5th June 2023

Interview Date: Tuesday 13th June 2023

Salary: GBP 36000 - 60000 per year
