Job Description

Kupu is seeking Environmental Education Leaders (EELs) to work full-time in K-12 schools across Hawaiʻi. This role, part of the Conservation Leadership Development Program, involves inspiring students in environmental education and cultural stewardship. Candidates must be at least 21, have a valid driver's license, and housing on the island. The position offers a living stipend, training, and benefits. Locations include various Hawaiian islands.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION LEADERS (EELs)

A specialized position within Kupu’s Conservation Leadership Development Program (CLDP)

Kupu’s Environmental Education Leaders (EELs) program is a unique opportunity for early-career professionals (ages 21+) to serve in K-12 schools across Hawaiʻi. EELs aim to inspire and prepare the next generation of local environmental and cultural stewards for careers in natural resources and sustainable agriculture.

As a part of the Conservation Leadership Development Program (CLDP), EELs are individually placed at partner schools to inspire youth, connect classrooms to ʻāina, and help build stronger communities through environmental education.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Term Lengths Offered
• Seasonal: 6 months
• Yearlong: 11 months

Schedule
• Full-time only (40 hours/week)
• Monday–Friday; hours vary by site

Locations
• Hawaiʻi Island, Kauaʻi, Maui, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Environmental Education Leader, your responsibilities may include:
• Leading or assisting environmental education activities for K–12 students
• Planning, developing, and delivering culturally relevant curriculum
• Organizing and supervising field trips and hands-on learning experiences
• Mentoring students in areas such as sustainability, sustainable agriculture, conservation, and cultural practices
• Engaging with teachers, school staff, and community partners to expand educational impact
• Participating in Kupu service days, training sessions, and professional development workshops

Note: Responsibilities vary depending on placement and will be detailed during the interview process.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• At least 21 years of age by the start of the program
• Possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive students in 15-passenger vans or mini-buses
• Able to pass a criminal history check, driving history check, and drug test
• Have own housing and transportation on island
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage youth and community audiences
• Related experience in education, natural resource management, Hawaiian studies, sustainable agriculture, or similar fields
• Confident in managing student groups and leading educational activities

• Living stipend equivalent to $17.00–$18.00/hour
