Job Description

Wilderness Foundation UK is seeking an Environmental Education Facilitator to lead outdoor education visits across multiple sites in Essex. The role involves inspiring young people to appreciate nature, conducting workshops, and ensuring high educational standards. Candidates should have experience with youth work, outdoor skills, and a passion for the environment. This is a freelance position requiring a full driving license and access to a vehicle, with a pay rate of £17 per hour.

Environmental Education

Our programmes engage over 6,000 children a year and our aims are to inspire young minds to respect and want to care for our natural world. We teach young people about the wonders of nature and biodiversity. We work across multiple sites in Essex including our main site in Chatham Green (400 acres of mixed woods, arable farming, and meadows), a 100-acre ancient semi natural woodland and Hatfield Forest. Mann Wood a 92-acre woodland located between Chelmsford and Braintree.

What will you be doing:

Supporting the Education Team in leading and running environmental education visits. Leading classes and running workshops outdoors about the natural world. Inspiring young people to care for and respect the environment through first-hand experience. Risk assessing and setting up prior to visits and maintaining a high quality and standard of educational delivery. Communicating with staff, pupils and parents to ensure all young peoples needs are catered for.

The successful candidate will be:

We are looking for someone with experience working with young people, including large groups and SEND classes. You need to enjoy and be familiar working outdoors and have an interest and knowledge of the natural world.
• A team player who loves nature and believe in the same ethos as the Charity’s
• Experienced youth worker or outdoor facilitator
• Outdoor skills trained, e.g. bushcraft
• Qualified outdoor first aider
• Experiential knowledge of natural world or qualification in environment and conservation or similar
• Understanding of primary and secondary curriculum

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for this role.
