The Kent Conservation District, a governmental subdivision of the State of Delaware, is seeking applicants for an
Environmental Control Technician II position for contractual services with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources
and Environmental Control (DNREC), Division of Fish & Wildlife – Fisheries section.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a full performance level position that will conduct field, laboratory, and office duties to directly support the
conservation, protection, development and utilization of the State's water and soil resources through conserving and
managing fish, their habitats, and ecological functions by performing field surveys and data collection to support
management activities.
The Environmental Control Technician II (ECT II) reports directly to Project Leaders to assist with freshwater,
anadromous, and invasive fish species research and management throughout the state of Delaware. The ECT II will
assist biologists with collecting fish using a variety of gear types, including trawl nets, gill nets, seine nets, and
electrofishing units. Morphological data and biological samples will be taken from fish, including hard parts that will
be processed and used for aging. Acoustic telemetry equipment will be deployed, downloaded, and maintained. The
ECT II will operate and maintain boats, trailers, outboard motors, and sampling equipment. Other duties include fish
stocking, water quality sampling, eDNA sampling, structural habitat enhancement, response to fish kills, and data
entry. The ECT II will oversee seasonal staff as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Work requires evaluative thought due to a variety if soil, air, water, and habitat conditions.
• Operates and maintains various scientific instruments, boats, trailers, and outboard motors.
• Conducts complex fieldwork to collect fish, water, and biological samples using a variety of gear types and
scientific instruments.
• Inspects and modifies/repair equipment to ensure it is guidance of supervisor, including data entry and analysis.
• Participates in preparation of technical reports under guidance of supervisor, including data entry and analysis,

• Collects and processes biological samples, including hard parts for fish aging, according to standard protocols
and send tissue samples for laboratory analysis.
• Directs the work of seasonal staff as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Six months experience in conducting field work to collect sample and survey data.
• Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentage, or decimals.
• Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Six months experience in narrative report writing.
• Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report
on data.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Possession of a valid Driver’s License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
2. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The Kent Conservation District does not
provide sponsorship for holders of H1-B Visas.
3. Direct Deposit of paychecks is required of all new employees.
