About the position

The Environmental Consultant position at Wake County focuses on ensuring compliance with environmental health regulations in food, lodging, and institutional settings. The role combines customer service, scientific knowledge, and public health advocacy to educate stakeholders and enforce safety standards. The consultant will conduct inspections, investigate outbreaks, and respond to complaints, contributing to the overall mission of reducing public health risks in Wake County.

Responsibilities
• Perform inspection of food, lodging, and institutional facilities required by state rules and regulations
,
• Conduct foodborne and communicable disease outbreak investigations
,
• Inspect swimming pools and tattoo facilities as needed
,
• Perform emergency response and complaint investigations
,
• Educate the general public concerning environmental and public health issues

Requirements
• Bachelor's or postgraduate degree from an accredited program in Environmental Health or related field
,
• Three years of experience in environmental health or a related field
,
• NC Registered Environmental Health Specialist
,
• Four NCDHHS authorizations (Food Lodging Institutions; Pools; Child Care Centers and Public, Private and Religious Schools; Tattoos)
,
• Valid Driver's License and 'safe' driving record

• Knowledge of local and state regulations governing food and lodging institutions

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
