Water Protection Specialist Role

The Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Water Protection Specialist to join their team in the Drinking Water and Groundwater Protection Division.
This role involves working closely with engineers, consultants, and the public to ensure compliance with regulations related to soil-based wastewater systems and potable water supplies. Key responsibilities include:
• Determining compliance requirements for WW programs and tracking progress
• Reviewing technical drawings and reports for accuracy and completeness
• Providing education, outreach, and technical assistance to the public and individuals in the field
• Collaborating with colleagues to develop and implement compliance procedures
A successful candidate will possess strong computer skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work well with the public and coordinate with colleagues. Familiarity with custom databases is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities Include:
• Regulatory Compliance Management: Determine and track WW program compliance requirements.
• Technical Review and Evaluation: Review and evaluate technical drawings and reports.
• Public Outreach and Education: Provide education, outreach, and technical assistance to the public and individuals in the field.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement compliance procedures.
Qualifications and Skills:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field. Alternatively, three (3) years or more of experience in a relevant field is also acceptable.
