What You'll Do
• The Pantex Plant is the nation’s primary nuclear weapons manufacturing facility. The site is seeking a highly qualified applicant to join an accomplished and award-winning Environmental Compliance Department. This position will provide significant support to the Waste Operations Department and the majority of day-to-day responsibilities will be those associated with Waste Operations activities. Candidates must have substantial environmental compliance related training, experience, and technical leadership in the specific areas of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act compliance and permitting, waste transportation regulations, NNSA weapons programs, mixed waste management, and development of broad-spectrum compliance strategies for large industrial sites.
• Apply substantial experience with interpretation of environmental regulations and waste acceptance criteria to inspect, oversee, and document waste shipments to treatment, storage, and disposal facilities.
• Cross train, conduct walk downs, and complete compliance assessments with other environmental professionals in the field and across the industrial areas to ensure strict compliance with waste management, staging, and shipping requirements.
• Employ significant professional experience, education, and specialized training across multiple environmental science disciplines to lead or support other subject matter experts; mentor associate or mid-career level team members; communicate with senior and executive management to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements; and ensure monitoring, analysis, and recording of environmental data by technical and sampling organizations meet data quality objectives.
• Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office software to support excellence in written and verbal stakeholder communications.
• Develop metrics, prepare reports, and conduct evaluations and assessments, from basic to complex, to quantify and interpret the Plant’s progress towards organizational goals.
• Support other environmental programs including Natural Resource Management, Regulated Petroleum Storage Tank Compliance, Water/Wastewater Compliance, Air Quality Compliance, and National Environmental Quality Act Compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
• Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
• PhD: No experience required
• Staff with high school diplomas may be considered on an exceptional basis if they have more years of relevant experience. Typically, each year of college education is equal to two years of experience.

Preferred Job Requirements
• Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or engineering related discipline with at least four years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes environmental permitting, environmental monitoring, interpretation of waste management and transportation regulations, management of radioactive waste, and/or waste characterization. Typical environmental compliance related experience ranges from 7 to 10 years.
• Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or engineering related discipline with at least four years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes environmental permitting, environmental monitoring, interpretation of waste management and transportation regulations, management of radioactive waste, and/or waste characterization. Typical environmental compliance related experience ranges from 7 to 10 years.
• A Master of Science degree in an environmental, science, or engineering related discipline with a minimum three years of specialized environmental experience, including with substantial experience with NNSA weapons programs, environmental permitting, environmental monitoring, and interpretation of waste management and transportation regulations. Typical environmental compliance related experience ranges from 10 to 15 years.
• Specialized work experience should include acting as a technical lead:
• Waste characterization and profiling and development or implementation of waste management strategies.
• Synchronizing radiation safety practices, radiologic monitoring, nuclear material management, and radioactive waste management.
• Leading the development, implementation, and reporting of compliance data, and leading permit calculations/ applications/ negotiations.
• Organizing, planning, and implementing waste management shipping documentation.
• Coordinating effective oral and written communication with various stakeholder groups, including regulatory agencies, upper management, DOE oversight, and the general public.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
