Environmental Compliance Manager

Maverik is seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager in Des Moines, IA, responsible for managing EPA and DEQ compliance for over 1,000 convenience stores nationwide. Key duties include overseeing regulatory compliance reporting, updating policies, monitoring changes, managing insurance requirements, and preparing for inspections. Candidates should have relevant experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently. A Bachelor's degree and certifications are preferred.
We're looking for an Environmental Compliance Manager to join our team at Maverik.

This role will involve managing EPA and DEQ compliance for over 1,000 convenience stores across the US. You'll be responsible for ensuring we maintain high standards of regulatory compliance while protecting the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage state-by-state federal regulatory environmental compliance reporting for USTs at all Company locations and schedule annual triennial testing of UST components and leak detection devices.
• Oversee and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance and manage in-house online documentation repository for all compliance-related documents.
• Monitor regulatory compliance changes in each state and communicate changes to stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Manage process for maintaining appropriate operator qualification/training and certification for employees at all Company locations, abiding by federal rules and the rules pertaining to the state the store resides in.
• Work with Risk Management for UST system insurance coverages, whether self, agency, or state insured; and maintain documentation library identifying all systems covered and any other pertinent information.
• Manage state insurance requirements through state insurance fund and/or commercial insurance obtained through Maverik's Risk Assessment Department, filing registration change for new or decommissioned assets, and renewals of UST systems insurance and provide necessary reports to the Director.
• Prepare appropriate documentation prior to the scheduled regulatory inspection to minimize exposure to potential fines and work with regulatory bodies to resolve compliance issues within regulatory and budget constraints.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
• Class A/B Operator Certification in select states preferred.
• + years' experience with underground storage tank insurance process management, registration.
• + years' experience with environmental compliance.
• + years' experience of environmental agency resolution and negotiation.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including strong listening skills.
• Practice operating independently without the need for continuous oversight or direction.
• Proven ability to effectively prioritize and balance competing needs.
• A history of taking the initiative to identify and solve work-related problems.
• Experience in exercising initiative and sound judgment in decision-making.
