Job Description

The State of Missouri is hiring an Environmental Assistant Intern for the Northeast Regional Office in Macon, MO, from May to August 2025. Responsibilities include conducting inspections at Scrap Tire Collection Centers, assisting with environmental compliance, and documenting findings. Candidates should have strong attention to detail, computer skills, and interpersonal skills. The position offers experience in environmental regulations and public interaction, with a pay rate of $17.77 per hour.

This position will be located at the Northeast Regional Office, 1709 Prospect Drive, in Macon. The hours of work will mostly be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Duration of Assignment: May – August, 2025
• Conduct inspections at Scrap Tire Collection Centers and make observations related to proper management and disposal/recycling
• Conduct Compliance and Assistance Visits for the regulated community and general public, to assist with achieving and maintaining compliance with environmental regulations
• Investigate concerns related to the improper management and disposal of scrap tires
• Follow up on the removal of Scrap Tires and Solid Waste to confirm compliance issues have been corrected
• Create written documentation as appropriate within established department policies, guidance, and timeframes documenting observations made during inspections, investigations, assistance visits and follow ups

Experience to be Gained:
• Understanding in the area of environmental regulations in Missouri
• Interacting with the public regarding compliance determination
• Practice technical writing skills
