About the position

The Environmental Analyst position within the Public Drinking Water Program focuses on analyzing and addressing emerging contaminants in Vermont's public drinking water systems. The role involves data analysis, research, coordination with field staff, and technical support to ensure compliance with water quality standards. The position is designed for individuals passionate about environmental science and public health, particularly in relation to drinking water safety.

Responsibilities
• Analyze water system data to understand the extent of emerging contaminants in Vermont public drinking water.

• Review studies, reports, and other deliverables pertaining to emerging contaminants and treatment methods.
,
• Research and report on various states' drinking water standards and sampling frameworks for emerging contaminants.
,
• Design and coordinate with field staff and/or contractors to perform water quality sampling.
,
• Coordinate with water systems experiencing elevated levels of emerging contaminants and assist in their removal.
,
• Inspect public drinking water systems following treatment installation to ensure compliance with the Water Supply Rule.

Requirements
• Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.

• Bachelor's degree in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND two (2) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.
,
• Five (5) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.

Nice-to-haves
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of drinking water quality and treatment processes.
,
• Ability to transfer complex technical findings into an applicable regulatory framework.
,
• Succinct communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
