Job Description

The University of Iowa is hiring Environmental Analysts for six-month appointments in Ankeny and Coralville, Iowa, starting May/June 2026. Candidates will collect and analyze water and wastewater samples, requiring extensive travel across Iowa. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, along with communication skills and a valid driver’s license. The position offers a pay rate of $20 per hour and follows a Monday to Friday schedule.
Environmental Analyst – Limnology

The University of Iowa’s State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health Laboratory) has multiple Environmental Analyst openings in the Ankeny Laboratory and Coralville Laboratory.

Term: Six‑month appointment from May/June 2026 through October/November 2026.
Location: Ankeny and Coralville, Iowa.
Schedule: M‑F 7:00 am–3:30 pm.
Pay: $20 per hour.

Job Duties
• Collect water, biological, and wastewater samples from rivers, streams, lakes, and industries and perform analyses in the field and laboratory.
• Extensive travel across Iowa may be required.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, animal ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline with an emphasis in aquatic science or fisheries (or candidate is pursuing one).
• Good verbal and written communication skills and a valid driver’s license.

Desired Skills
• Experience with collection of surface water and wastewater samples, routine analytical procedures, electrofishing, and invertebrate collection.

Employment contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
