Job Description
Bunge is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Trainee for an entry-level position in Atchison, KS. The role involves implementing EHS programs, ensuring compliance, and preventing injuries and environmental incidents. The candidate will receive training from experienced EHS professionals, with responsibilities including coaching personnel, conducting audits, and supporting sustainability initiatives. After 18-24 months, there may be opportunities for promotion to EHS Manager positions within Bunge.
About the position
This position is an entry-level developmental role at Bunge, where the candidate will report to the site's Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager. The role is designed to be a key contributor in the implementation of the facility's EHS programs, focusing on the prevention of serious injuries and fatalities, ensuring environmental compliance, and preventing property damage and other general liability losses. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn and develop under the guidance of leading EHS professionals, gaining a wide spectrum of skills in leadership development and career advancement within Bunge's operating facilities. After an initial structured development period of 18 to 24 months, the candidate will be evaluated for promotion to EHS Manager positions at other Bunge facilities as they become available. The main responsibilities include implementing, maintaining, and updating Bunge EHS standards to promote a Best-in-Class safety program aimed at eliminating Serious Injuries & Fatalities (SIF) and High Potential Exposures (HPE). The candidate will also be responsible for coaching Bunge personnel on EHS standards and procedure interpretations, conducting relevant SHE training/orientations for plant personnel, contractors, and visitors, and performing audits and inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with EHS standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the candidate will assist management with incident investigations, maintain records of audits and inspections, and support environmental sustainability initiatives throughout the assigned facility. The role also involves co-chairing the site's Safety and Health Committee and providing support to the Loss Prevention Control inspection process, with an emphasis on fire prevention and fire protection equipment.
Responsibilities
• Implement, maintain and update Bunge EHS standards to promote a Best-in-Class safety program with a focus on eliminating Serious Injuries & Fatalities (SIF) and High Potential Exposures (HPE).

• Implement, maintain and update Bunge EHS standards to promote a Best-in-Class environmental compliance program with a focus on eliminating environmental incidents and non-compliance events.
,
• Coach Bunge personnel on EHS standards and procedure interpretations.
,
• Conduct relevant SHE training/orientations for plant personnel, contractors and visitors.
,
• Conduct audits and inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with EHS standards and procedures and regulatory requirements, identify deficiencies and assist in the development of corrective actions.
,
• Assist management with incident investigations to identify root causes and key factors and aid in the development of corrective and preventive actions.
,
• Maintain records of audits, inspections, monitoring, training, etc. per Bunge standards and regulatory requirements.
,
• Perform tracking and trending of EHS incidents to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and the prevention of future events.
,
• Support environmental sustainability throughout the assigned facility.
,
• Assist plant personnel in conducting high-quality hazard analysis and risk assessments.
,
• Provide support to the Loss Prevention Control inspection process at the facility, with emphasis on fire prevention and fire protection equipment.

• Support the implementation of the Process Safety Management (PSM) program at the facility where applicable.
,
• Co-chair the site's Safety and Health Committee and participate on other applicable safety committees.
,
• Assist in worker's compensation claims and employee return-to-work programs.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental/Health Science, or closely related field required.
,
• Prior internship or other safety and environmental experience preferred.
,
• Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills required.
,
• Good working knowledge of PC applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
,
• Ability to grow in the Bunge EHS role with the potential for advancement into a senior EHS management position and possible future relocation.
