Job Description
FreezPak Logistics is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Specialist in Woodbridge Township, NJ. The role involves developing safety and environmental compliance programs, conducting training, overseeing incident investigations, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Reports to: Director of Compliance and Food Safety
Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Specialist to join our team at FreezPak Logistics. This role is responsible for developing and managing comprehensive safety, security, and environmental compliance programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in EH&S, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead and train diverse teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement safety, security, and environmental compliance programs, ensuring employees understand and adhere to policies.
• Manage key safety programs, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), risk assessment methods, and ammonia refrigeration compliance.
• Lead training initiatives for employees, contractors, and visitors to enhance safety awareness and compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.
• Oversee incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Create and audit regulatory compliance programs, including permitting, chemical storage, air quality, wastewater discharge, and SPCC.
• Monitor safety metrics, using continuous improvement tools to provide actionable insights and recommendations.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Support the development and implementation of emergency preparedness plans, fire protection systems, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
• Coordinate workers’ compensation claims and assist management with injury and equipment damage investigations.
• Promote a proactive safety culture, engaging associates to follow safe work practices and participate in hazard reduction efforts.
• Collaborate with management on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) plans and support process safety management (PSM) programs.
• Interface with regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA) as needed in the absence of the safety director.
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of safety or operational/utility experience, or High School Diploma/GED with 5-7 years of experience in similar roles.
• In-depth knowledge of safety concepts, OSHA regulations, and their application to site operations.
• Proven ability to develop and implement safety programs, solve safety gaps, and execute corrective action plans in a warehouse/cold storage setting.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to train diverse audiences and present to large groups.
• Experience with LEAN and/or Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
• Hands-on, entrepreneurial approach with a focus on innovation and exceeding safety norms.
• Organized, detail-oriented self-starter, capable of analyzing complex problems and driving effective solutions.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work in cold storage environments with temperatures as low as -20°F.
• Ability to conduct facility walkthroughs and audits, which may involve standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods.
• Must be willing to travel to multiple sites for this position
