Job Description

The Environmental & Energy Manager at Akima, LLC in El Centro, CA oversees environmental compliance and energy management for facility operations under a DoD contract. Responsibilities include developing policies, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations, conducting audits, and leading sustainability initiatives. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience.
Manages the environmental, industrial, health and safety regulation compliance for one or multiple facilities. Manages development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health and safety policies; develops procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety) used throughout the program. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental safety and handles all contact with appropriate agencies. Manages licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal and monitors waste handling. Develops and oversees company training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety. May be the point of contact for emergency personnel and manage workers compensation program administration. Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Comprehensive knowledge of the field's concepts and principles. Leads and directs the work of other employees and has full authority for personnel decisions. Administers departmental policies and procedures, evaluates results and performance, and assists with the development of new or modified budgets, strategic plans, or policies.

Responsibilities
• The Environmental/Energy Manager will oversee environmental compliance and energy management for facility maintenance and airfield operations under a DoD contract.
• This role ensures adherence to the Environmental Management System (EMS), the Installation Energy Plan, and all sustainability requirements impacting contract performance.
• The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing and implementing environmental strategies, policies, and programs that promote sustainable development, while identifying opportunities for improvement in contract operations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental and energy compliance across all contract activities.
• Ensure operations align with EMS goals, Installation Energy Plan, and federal sustainability mandates.
• Develop, implement, and monitor environmental strategies, policies, and programs to promote sustainable development.
• Conduct audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with environmental legislation and energy policy.
• Lead initiatives for energy and water reduction, renewable energy integration, and environmental stewardship.
• Provide technical guidance on federal environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, EPCRA, FIFRA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act) and DoD sustainability requirements.
• Collaborate with multifunctional teams to support facility and airfield operations while maintaining compliance and efficiency.
• Prepare reports and documentation for government stakeholders and ensure timely submission.

Qualifications
• Must be able to pass a background investigation
• Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field preferred.
• Shall have a minimum two years’ experience with environmental procedures similar to those of this contract; familiarity with Environmental Management Systems (EMSs); and knowledge of environmental regulations and federal energy laws and policy (including energy and water reduction requirements and renewable energy requirements) that are applicable to operations similar to those of this contract.
