The Environment & Regulatory Advisor – Field Operations is accountable for ensuring the company’s regulatory and environmental compliance requirements are met and exceeded. This role is pivotal in maintaining adherence to legislative standards, managing risk, and fostering strong relationships with regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders. Key responsibilities include field support, maintaining and ensuring compliance with existing approvals, inspection and audit support.

The Team

The SECURE Environment & Regulatory team is a dedicated group of experts committed to ensuring compliance, sustainability, and operational excellence. They navigate complex regulations, provide strategic guidance, and support field operations to uphold environmental and safety standards. In our collaborative, fast-paced, and solutions-driven environment, they work proactively to mitigate risks, optimize compliance, and drive continuous improvement—making a lasting impact on both our business and the environment.

Work Environment

This full-time, permanent position is based in Edmonton, Alberta, and requires 40 hours per week in an in-office setting. Additionally, the selected candidate will need to travel to various sites across Western Canada and North Dakota.

A Day in The Life

The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
• Site Visits & Field Support – Conduct at least quarterly visits to SECURE facilities to train, mentor, and ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
• Regulatory Compliance Guidance – Support operations and sales teams on waste characterization, transport, disposal, and regulatory compliance issues.
• Stakeholder & Vendor Liaison – Coordinate with laboratories, contractors, and service providers to support compliance and operational needs.
• Permit & Compliance Management – Understand facility permits, recommend efficiencies, and assist with compliance submissions (e.g., pipeline abandonments, well submissions, approval amendments).
• Regulatory Reporting – Develop, review, and manage required regulatory reports, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission.
• Audit & Inspection Support – Assist operations with external audits, inspections, and compliance actions from regulators, clients, and other entities.
• Incident Management & Response – Investigate and resolve environmental incidents, providing recommendations to prevent recurrence.
• Training & Compliance Oversight – Deliver internal training on environmental and regulatory matters and guide operations in addressing non-compliances.
• Compliance Systems & Documentation – Manage environmental data, document control, and compliance tools (e.g., SharePoint, ITRAK, Power BI).
• Regulatory Negotiation & Cost Optimization – Engage with regulatory agencies to optimize reporting scope, reduce monitoring requirements, and improve cost efficiency.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

The individual in this role will have:
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental and regulatory compliance.
• Valid Class 5 Drivers LicenseStrong knowledge of Western Canadian environmental regulations.
• Proven experience in external audits and inspections, regulatory reporting, and compliance.
• Strong communication, organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain attention to detail, and work collaboratively across departments.
• Ability to travel to field locations on a quarterly basis.
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Regulatory Affairs, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
