Job description and responsibilities:

Abt Global seeks an early-career professional to support the research, design and execution of data-intensive government projects focused on the environment and energy sector. You’ll bring your data and digital expertise to help us address challenges ranging from pollution prevention and climate resiliency to energy transition and climate and environmental justice.

If selected, you’ll be part of our efforts to help move people from vulnerability to security as you work on data-driven environmental solutions for such clients as federal agencies, state governments and foundations. We will mentor you as you learn about modern data practices and digital product development and develop professional skills in data analytics, geospatial, low code development, and data visualization and storytelling.

You will join a community of data and digital experts and participate in professional development opportunities, networking events and more. Positions are remote with a preference that applicants are located near one of offices in Rockville, MD, Cambridge, MA, Durham NC, or Atlanta GA to meet and work with colleagues in person.

Core Responsibilities
• Apply knowledge in modern data management and analytical technologies to manage, visualize, and analyze data from a variety of federal datasets.
• Support the stewardship and analysis of government data, with focus on environmental, health, and socio-economic data.
• Provide support across the data lifecycle including data intake, storage, synthesis, automation, and analytical development.
• Contribute to design, development, and testing of digital products including websites, visualizations, mapping tools, and data dashboards.
• Use metrics and data to measure product success and assist in planning product improvements.
• Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure data security, integrity, and availability.
• Keep abreast of trends and developments in the proposed field(s) of specialization, by for example, attending formal training to enhance analytics and developer skills, including in-house professional development activities and events.

Requirements and qualifications:

What We Value
• BA/BS degree
• Coursework in environmental science, environmental policy, computer science, economics, chemistry, biology, or related fields is desirable.
• Entry-level skills in data analytics and management languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
• Exposure to one or more of the following: ArcGIS, Drupal CMS, Google Analytics, Oracle APEX, and/or BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or similar.
• Preferred: experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Collaborative focus and strong communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing project demands while maintaining a high attention to detail.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to continued skill development.
• Strong academic record required.
